The Best Alternative Summer Activities
Summer is officially here and you want to get out and be active! But, the usual walking and bike riding is starting to become a little boring. Don’t worry! Here is a short list of alternative summer outdoor activities!
Kickball With today’s emphasis on social activities, there are plenty of adult kickball leagues popping up around the country. Many leagues encourage you to bring pets, music, and drinks. What’s better than that? Plus, not only is it a great way to stay active, it’s also a way to meet new people.
Tennis You don’t have to be a member to an expensive country club to play tennis. Most public schools or parks have tennis courts at them. All you need is a can of tennis balls and a couple rackets to play with a friend. Your friend can’t make it? Test your skills against the side of a wall. Just put pieces of tape where the net would be and challenge yourself to get better.
Kayaking/Paddleboarding If you can access a body of water, any sports and recreation store nearby should have kayaks or paddleboards to rent. Kayaking and Paddleboarding are a great way to get out on the water and see things from a different perspective. Not only will you get a new, gorgeous view around you, you will also be getting in some great exercise. Working too hard? Just jump in the water to cool down!
Beach Volleyball If you’re not the type to just lay on the beach, try your hand at Beach Volleyball. Most public beaches have volleyball nets set up. All you need is a ball and some friends to get in a great summer workout while having a blast! The sand will cause you to work more, but it gives a great cushion to make that diving play. If there are only a couple of you going to the beach, volleyball is a great way to meet some new friends.
Spike Ball If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it is like a combination of tennis and volleyball. It is played with 4 people, two teams of 2. You hit the ball back and forth to each other off of a net on the ground. If you are so inclined, a simple Google search will yield hundreds of videos of people playing the rapidly growing game. It’s a fantastic workout and can be played almost anywhere there is a little bit of open space. The only downside is that the net and balls can cost up to $60. But, if you love the game it is well worth it and you will get plenty of great workouts from it.
